Review: Murtagh

Murtagh by Christopher Paolini
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Murtagh" unfurls yet another chapter in the world of Eragon, extending a familiar tapestry of dragons, quests, and looming adversities. My journey through this fifth full-length instalment was coloured by a deep-seated affection for the world Paolini has crafted and the characters that inhabit it. However, I found my enjoyment somewhat tempered by the narrative's pacing, which unfolded with a deliberateness that lacked the captivating urgency of Paolini's earlier works.

Reflecting on the story, it seems imbued with a sense of routine that perhaps mirrors the author's own evolution, having interwoven more life experience into his writing. This maturity brings a different texture to the tale, one that might be described as lacking the raw passion that pulsed through "Eragon."

Despite these critiques, my love for the series remains undiminished. Yet, it's hard not to ponder how the legacy of "Eragon" might have been altered had it shared this more measured pace....well....it would have been as good as the movie....
