Review: Falling Hard for the Royal Guard

Falling Hard for the Royal Guard by Megan Clawson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Falling Hard" offers a delightful slow-burn narrative that captures the essence of relatable struggles amidst an unconventional setting. Maggie, the protagonist, embodies the frustration of life's disappointments, albeit against the backdrop of palace walls and charity shop attire.

Haunted by an ex-lover's persistence and recurrent career setbacks, Maggie's existence feels hollow until she encounters a unique squad of Royal Guards. While the pacing may appear leisurely, it skillfully weaves together a captivating ensemble of characters. Maggie's passion for history seamlessly integrates historical insights into the narrative, though the story doesn't delve into full-blown historical romance territory.

While the climax felt somewhat rushed, it captivated me, prompting a single-sitting read for the book's final third. "Falling Hard" proves to be an immensely enjoyable read, leaving only the regret of not having a sequel to anticipate.
